Hey Lovelies! Happy wedding weekend! Today we are going to dive in to the ever puzzling problem, what to wear to a wedding!
With such attire differences in what you should wear for a “formal,” “semi-formal,” “cocktail,” and “casual” wedding, you may be left, {like to rest of us} figuring out what to wear and hoping you fit the occasion. As much as the invitation can give hint to this, there is still some different rules that apply for all of the looks. To help clear up the confusion, we have rounded up our favorite looks for all of the different wedding looks both men and women!
Here are a couple of rules to follow no matter that type of wedding you are going to
1.) The unforgivable sin. No White! And also it’s not about you! Don’t steal the attention by wearing white or something that distracts in any way from the bride on her big day. Also steer clear of wedding colors to avoid being mistaken as a member of the bridal party. If the wedding colors are a mystery to you, patterns are a safe bet
2.) Don’t bare it all. Sure, weddings are a great opportunity to flaunt your favorite feature but do yourself a favor and stick to just one feature like your legs, shoulders, or back. Opt for simple, pretty or romantic looks rather than edgy or sultry ensembles. Simple beauty is best. Keep hair and makeup natural and pretty.
3.) Pay attention to detail. Check the invite for clues on dress code. For black-tie affairs, the sky (and the knee) is the limit – nothing to far above the knee. Your not dressing for the club ;).
When it doubt, play it safe somewhere in the middle. While long dresses can typically read more formal, a jersey or cotton material helps it read slightly more casual. On the other hand, a cocktail dress with embellishments like beading or lace can translate a dress with a shorter hem into something more formal.
Besides that there are some typical looks that work for these occasions. Let’s start with the men, because they are easier!

Ok ladies, now you are a little trickier
If the invitation is Formal or says Black Tie-
You should bring on the glamour! This is your time to bring out your nicest floor length dress or an elegant cocktail dress you have been hiding in your closet. Sequins, lace and beadwork is definitely accepted and matched with some amazing pumps, a fabulous necklace and some lovely earrings, you have yourself a perfect outfit!

If the invitation is or says Semi-Formal-
This attire can vary based on time of year, time of day and even location of the wedding. When “semi-formal” dress is requested, error on the side of formality and wear a nice cocktail dress or a fabulous blouse and skirt. If the wedding is during the day, opt for lighter colors and fabrics , nighttime calls for darker, bolder colors. We suggest matching the venue look the most here as it will give you the most clues on what to wear. If it is a garden wedding, wear a cute floral dress, whereas if it is a beach wedding a nice beachy/maxi dress is a great look.

Casual.
Casual usually means anything goes, but we suggest erroring on the nicer side of formal with no jeans or tennis shoes to be worn or seen by guest. Business casual is usually a safe bet, but a sundress or a nice blouse and skirt work well too.
